It's a time where everyone is happy, we all get presents, eat a lot of food, get together and have a good time.

I think christmas is a time for people to give thanks to our savior jesus crist who died on the cross for us to live in his name and carry on what he was doing in his time

Well, i think Christmas is a time to have fun, don't worry, be happy, party party party, give and receive presents, eat lots of food, drink till you drop, but most important of all, a time for trusting, not deceiving, a time for peace, submission and forgiveness and a time for looking forward to what next year will bring. For example, in my family, my Aunt's new baby's due in around 16 weeks time, I'll be going to RNC in Hereford, probably around the time the baby's born, my cousins who live in the US are coming over to visit, also around the time the new baby arrives, so that looks like being an incredibly busy two months for the family as a whole, plus preparations for our Easter Sunday family day round my Grandparents. Anyway, enough of the rambling, Christmas I'd say, is definitely my favourite time of the year.

I see Christmas as a time, however fake and forced, where your family all gathers together and you bond, and talk, and reunite and feel love. I think gift giving and eating is all part of that unity, but that's what Christmas is to me, a warm cozy lovey family reunion.

I see Christmas as a time to remember the gift God gave us of His Son Jesus, and the gift Jesus gave us by sacrificing His life so we could have eternal life with Him. I also see it as a time to be with our families and the ones we love and reflect on everything good we have in our lives. I mean gifts are cool, but everyone is so focused on the gifts, they forgot about the first Christmas gift and what it did for us all.

absolutely nothing, to be honest. it's just another day. i think people should show you they care year round.

Post 12 by Pure love (I'm going for the prolific poster awards!) on Friday, 22-Dec-2006 6:50:48

Well I agree that they should show that they care all year long. Yet christmas is special still. It's just an opportunity to get together with friends and family. And for me as a christian of course it means even more. It is the time where Jesus was born, and that is the most important meaning, in my opinion.

For me christmas is a time for giving presents and the family get together. How ever saying that, my mum said why do people leave it to christmas to see there loved ones they have all year to do it.

Well, here i will say that Christmas or its definition is one thing, what people make of it is another.
I do believe indeed that people should care for each other during the whole year, that is an absolute. But it doesn't make Christmas any less special. I will not repeat what inès says as i believe the same as she does all along.
Of course, attached to Christmas is the concept of the legende of Santa Clause, for the small kids and all the things related to it. Some books that are read more during that time, and a certain atmosphere also that is felt during Christmas.
That is my opinion, but was it not the purpose of this topic?

Christmas is a time for putting life into perspective. You gather with loved ones who care about and talk about life in general. Of course food and gifts are apart of it, but it's a meaningful time to get together with familyand friends. Christmas is so much fun!

As a Hellenic Polytheist, I can't say that Christmas has any religious meaning for me. But I do love the gifts and the closness of family. We may only be four, Mom, Joanie (her partner), Grandma and myself, but we are very close and this just makes us closer. Usually, we'd take a holiday somewhere for that time of year, whether it be some place local like Atlantic City or farther away like California or Nevada. But even when we're not doing that, we still enjoy one another's company and the gifts that we give to each other.

Each year for me christmas sucks even more. I mean comercials and christmas songs are starting to come up earlier and earlier. I sware in like 10 years we're going to start hearing about christmas in August!
But in all seriousness, for me it used to be a time of getting together and being happy and all that jaz. But now for me is just lost its touch hehe.

I agree with you about the songs. I mean, I do think it's good to play them during the holidays. They can be enjoyable. But some stations go all out and that's all they play. I hardly listen to American radio anymore, but it is annoying when you're looking for good music and all that's on is Christmas stuff.

Post 20 by DancingAfterDark (I just keep on posting!) on Sunday, 02-Dec-2007 21:19:42

I think it's silly to write Christmas off as just another day because people should show one another that they care year round. I don't think anyone is arguing that point by saying that's what Christmas is for. Of course you should show your loved ones that you care about them more than just one day a year, Christmas just gives you a chance to be a bit more extravagant, and as others have said, it's a time to be close to family and feel all those warm fuzzy feelings brought about by the holidays. I love Christmas--the music, the presents, the cold, the family, the food, everything about it. It holds no religious meaning for me, but I even enjoy Christmas church services when I attend them. Also, I love buying Christmas jewelry and I have an odd fascination with jingle bells. Lol.

I don't do Christmas. I try to stay out of everybody's way at Christmas time, because I don't want to spoil it for people who enjoy it, but I hate having Christmas shoved down my throat. I'm sure I would feel differently if I were a Christian or a family man or if I still drank.

christmas, is misleading in its name (has nothing to do with the birth of the Christ), is over-commerciallized and in short, a complete and utter load of crap. Another festival nicked off the pagans to make christianity more palitable, now seen as the time when retailers rub their hands together with glee, grin.
